Local business owner attends Chancellor’s small businesses celebration
Rachel Cabble, co-founder of Kendal-based business, Cable & Blake recognised at 11 Downing Street reception for ‘Small Award’ success
An award-winning local business was invited to 11 Downing Street this week, for a special reception hosted by the UK’s Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves, to recognise the contribution of the UK’s 5.45 million small businesses to the country’s economy, society and communities.
Rachel Cabble of Cable & Blake attended the special event which brought together recent winners and finalists of The Small Awards, which celebrate the UK’s ‘smallest and greatest’ businesses.
Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves said:
“It’s fantastic to celebrate the success of some of the UK’s brightest and best small businesses who play a vital role in driving growth, supporting jobs and keeping our high streets and communities thriving.
“We’re backing our small businesses by tackling issues like late payments and announcing £6.6bn of new capital for the British Business Bank to help SMEs expand, create new jobs, and boost their competitiveness internationally”.
The event featured over 40 small businesses, from micro-businesses and family businesses, to start-ups and high street heroes.
Cable & Blake won the Bricks and Clicks award for Best Multi-Channel Small Business, which recognises small businesses that use multiple channels innovatively to develop their business.
Rachel, Cable & Blake’s co-founder said:
“Being invited to 11 Downing Street was an unforgettable moment and a proud milestone for our family-run business. Winning the Bricks and Clicks Award has shown how a small business can thrive through creativity and collaboration.
“We’re proud that our commitment to our Lake District heritage shines through. It was a real honour to represent the area and the many talented makers we work with who help bring our Herdwick fabrics to life.”
Michelle Ovens CBE, Founder of Small Business Britain, said:
“Small businesses are the heart and soul of their communities and contribute massively to the UK economy,”
“It is fantastic to see the stellar achievements of the Cable & Blake team recognised by the Chancellor and the Treasury in this way, at such a special event. It is so important that the whole nation gets behind small businesses and give them all the support they need.”
