Herdwick fabric design collaboration

We are incredibly excited about our latest herdwick fabric design collaboration. Textiles student Sarah Hampson is spending a summer placement with Cable & Blake, creating new and exciting designs for our up and coming collection of Herdwick fabrics.

Locally born and bred, Sarah is currently studying Textiles Innovation and Design at Loughborough University, specialising in Printed Textiles. A love of drawing and nature are the foundations of Sarah’s work.

“All my design work starts with drawing and painting. I use my initial sketches and photographs from local walks as a beginning point. Back in the studio, I develop patterns and designs. My course is very drawing based. Every day I am in the studio drawing and creating new ideas.”

“I’m inspired by places and people. The endless and varying beauty of the Lake District landscape and it’s ever changing colours, weather, patterns and textures influence my designs. I love textiles that have a story, that are rooted in a place and show a journey. Walking in Cumbria all year round, provides so many ideas and inspiration”

“Collaborating with Cable & Blake is exciting and stimulating. I love the quality and local heritage behind their amazing Herdwick fabric. Their contemporary twist on a traditional textile, using joyous and uplifting colours and incorporating print into their fabrics, is truly innovative and an inspiring experience.”

We are really looking forward to seeing Sarah’s love of the natural landscape applied to our 100% wool fabrics – there’s something very lovely about the fusion between designs inspired by nature and a naturally derived product.
